چکیده

Brassinosteroids are a class of naturally occur ring phytohormones with high biological activity found in a wide variety of higher plants (Adam and Petzold, 1994; Adam et al., 1996; Cutler et al., 1991; Sakurai and Fujioka, 1993). Brassinosteroids occur only in trace amount (ngto ^ig/kg plant material). Therefore, their purification has to be monitored by a sensitive bioassay (Wada et al., 1984) and microanalytical techniques must be used for the brassinosteroid analysis (Ikekawa et al., 1984). In continuation of our work on the distribution of brassinosteroids we have investigated seeds of Gypsophila perfoliata belonging to the family Caryophyllaceae. To our knowledge, up to now no occurrence of brassinosteroids has been described for plant species of the Caryophyllaceae family. Gypsophila perfoliata stems originally from Middle-Asia and was not investigated with respect to natural compounds before. The present paper deals with the isolation and identification of bras sinosteroids and phytosterols from seeds of this species.

Effect of 24-epibrassinolide on Seed Germination, Seedling Growth and Heavy Metal Uptake in Brassica Juncea L

The effect of 24-epibrassinolide (24-epiBL) on seedling growth, metal uptake and accumulation were investigated in seedlings of Brassica juncea L. cv. PBR 91. Seeds of B. juncea treated with different concentrations (0, 10-7, 10-9 and 10-11 M) of 24-epiBL for 8 h were subjected to various concentrations (0, 25, 50 and 100 mg l-1) of heavy metals (Zn, Mn, Co and Ni). Seedling growth was improved...

24-Epibrassinolide, a Phytosterol from the Brassinosteroid Family, Protects Dopaminergic Cells against MPP+-Induced Oxidative Stress and Apoptosis

Oxidative stress and apoptosis are frequently cited to explain neuronal cell damage in various neurodegenerative disorders, such as Parkinson' s disease. Brassinosteroids (BRs) are phytosterols recognized to promote stress tolerance of vegetables via modulation of the antioxidative enzyme cascade. However, their antioxidative effects on mammalian neuronal cells have never been examined so far. ...

Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) Spectroscopy in Studies of the Protective Effects of 24-Epibrasinoide and Selenium against Zearalenone-Stimulation of the Oxidative Stress in Germinating Grains of Wheat

These studies concentrate on the possibility of using selenium ions and/or 24-epibrassinolide at non-toxic levels as protectors of wheat plants against zearalenone, which is a common and widespread mycotoxin. Analysis using the UHPLC-MS technique allowed for identification of grains having the stress-tolerant and stress-sensitive wheat genotype. When germinating in the presence of 30 µM of zear...

In ̄uence of Root-Applied Epibrassinolide and Carbenoxolone on the Nodulation and Growth of Soybean (Glycine max L.) Seedlings

24-Epibrassinolide belongs to the brassinosteroid family of plant hormones, and carbenoxolone is a synthetic analogue of glycyrrhizic acid that inhibits enzymes important in steroid and prostaglandin action in animals. The e€ect of these compounds on root nodulation, root growth and shoot growth of Glycine max (L.) Merr. cv. Tracy M was examined. Epibrassinolide reduced total nodulation, plant ...

Inactivation of brassinosteroid biological activity by a salicylate-inducible steroid sulfotransferase from Brassica napus.

Recent discoveries from brassinosteroid-deficient mutants led to the recognition that plants, like animals, use steroids to regulate their growth and development. We describe the characterization of one member of a Brassica napus sulfotransferase gene family coding for an enzyme that catalyzes the O-sulfonation of brassinosteroids and of mammalian estrogenic steroids. The enzyme is specific for...
